Christmas Brownies

  • 200g dark chocolate melts

  • 250g butter

  • 1 tbsp orange zest

  • ½ cup cocoa powder

  • ⅔ cup plain flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 2 ⅓ cup caster sugar

  • 4 eggs, beaten 

  • 1 cup candy melts, green

  • ½ cup star shaped sprinkles


  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 180°C

  • Step 2: Line a 24cm round cake pan with baking paper.

  • Step 3: Combine the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, orange zest and sugar in a large mixing bowl. 

  • Step 4: Add the beaten egg and mix until smooth.

  • Step 5: In a microwave safe bowl, microwave the chocolate melts and the butter for 60 seconds. Add the melted butter and chocolate to the mixing bowl. Mix together until silky.

  • Step 6: Pour the brownie mix into the cake pan and cook until brownie is springy on the outer and slightly gooey inside (approximately 25 minutes). 

  • Step 7: Allow brownie to cool and then transfer to a flat board. Cut the brownie into 12 triangle wedges.

  • Step 8: Insert a festive coloured paper straw into the base of each triangle.  

  • Step 9: In another microwave safe bowl, microwave the candy melts for 60 seconds. Stir the melted candy until a smooth consistency forms.

  • Step 10: With a spoon,drizzle the melted candy over the triangles in a zigzag pattern, to resemble xmas tree tinsel. 

  • Step 11: Decorate with star sprinkles and serve.
