Chocolate Berry Trifle

SERVES: 10-12


  • 500g store bought chocolate cake

  • 400g can Blueberries in syrup

  • 400g Blackberries in syrup

  • 500g Raspberry jam

  • 400g fresh Red currants or Raspberries

  • 100g fresh cherries

  • 600g thickened cream

  • 1 cup caster sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla essence.


  • Step 1: Roughly chop chocolate cake into pieces and place into a large mixing bowl.

  • Step 2: Add Raspberry jam and stir to coat and combine. 

  • Step 3: Pour Blueberry syrup and Blackberry syrup into mixing bowl. Set Blueberries and Blackberries aside. Allow chocolate cake to soak in berry syrup and jam for 10 minutes. 

  • Step 4: Meanwhile, whip cream, sugar and vanilla essence until stiff peaks form.

  • Step 5: Press half of the chocolate cake mixture into the bottom of a trifle bowl. 

  • Step 6: Layer on half of the whipped cream. 

  • Step 7: Use half of the blueberries, blackberries and raspberries to create a third layer of mixed berries.

  • Step 8: Use the remaining ingredients to add another layer of chocolate cake, another layer of whipped cream and another layer of mixed berries. 

  • Step 9: Top with fresh cherries to serve.
